This postcard depicts Ypres, Belgium after enduring two years of war.

The caption reads: "Tourists who knew Ypres and it's Rue de Lille in the days of peace can best appreciate the awfulness of its fate in the War."

Ypres was an historic town which predated the Roman era.  It suffered terrible destruction and loss of life during WW1.
