Mabel Elizabeth Jamieson was a World War One nurse who trained and worked in Palmerston North. She was born on July 21, 1881 to parents Thomas and Frances Jamieson in Kumara, Greymouth, South Island, New Zealand.
Her name appears on page three of this booklet and is believed to have died by drowning on 23 October, 1915 when the HS Marquette sank due to being hit by a torpedo launched by a submarine.
Jamieson is one of thirty-one nurses who were serving on the HS Marquette and died that day. Most died during the evacuation process as lifeboats tipped over.
She held the rank of Staff Nurse and served in the Army.
