Arthur Frederick Batchelar (c 1877-1964) was one of the children of John Octavius Batchelar of 'Willowbank' at Fitzherbert. He served in the Boer War and World War One, rising to the position of Lieutenant Colonel. After being wounded in battle, it was widely reported in the local papers that he had been killed - the mistake was reported as being corrected 4 days later. He was discharged in 1927, but remained involved as a returned serviceman. A portion of his personal archives was donated to the Ian Matheson City Archives, including a great deal of items to interest WWI historians, such as photographs, postcards, war magazines, papers and memorabilia. The archive also contains material from before and after the war. The material that relates to WWI has been digitised and will be continually added to his gallery.
