This postcard comes from the Ian Matheson City Archives - its provenance is unknown. Rather than standalone, it was part of a set of 8 postcards called "Anzacs in France", released by the Daily Mail.
The caption on the card reads, "Bringing up a gun". It depicts a team of horses hauling a piece of heavy artillery into position. There is no text on the back of the card.
The Daily Mail Official War Picture postcard series featured many subjects, but this set (series 20) was the first to give the spotlight to Kiwis and was released in January 1917. Sadly, this is the only postcard of the set that the Ian Matheson City Archives has in its collection. To find out more and to see the rest of the set, click here.
