If I am laying a wreath must it be a certain size or made out of certain materials?
It is is entirely up to you what your wreath is made from and what size it is. However, please be aware that there are a large number of groups wanting to lay a wreath. If yours is likely to be an extra large size please let us know in advance.
I see I can lay a wreath at the Civic Service in Palmerston North. Why can't I lay one at the Dawn Service?
The Dawn Service in Palmerston North is a military service, and follows military protocols. This means that wreath laying at the Dawn Service is reserved for organisations representing Veterans and currently serving New Zealand Defence Force personnel. The Civic Service is held for city. Therefore, anyone can lay a wreath at the Civic Service.
Are there any limits as to how many people can march in our group?
No. However if you have an exceptionally large group please let us know in advance. It will help for organisational purposes.
I heard there were some projects to make poppies for a community wreath. Is that right?
There are two community projects you can participate in:
- the Community Wreath to be laid on ANZAC Day by the Mayor and a member of the community. These poppies will be knitted.
- the Flax Poppy installation to be placed around the cenotaph. These poppies will be woven from harakeke (flax)
You're invited to come and be part of these projects. No experience is necessary, bring yourself and a friend to participate or pick up a pre-made knitting kit. For details check the listing here.
